How did you get started in the music industry? What inspired you to start working with music artists and organizing shows?
I got started in the music industry at a young age, through my involvement in my father’s church choir. My father was an elder at a Pentecostal church in the United States, and he encouraged my family to participate in the choir. This is where I first learned to sing. As I grew older and went to school, I participated in talent shows across the country. Later, I graduated from Dowing College with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree, and went on to study education at Northeastern University in Boston.

Can you tell us a bit about the music artists you represent? What makes them unique and sets them apart from other artists in the industry?
Every music artist is unique and has their own sound and style. This can include pop, R&B, Afrobeat, jazz, and rock musicians, among others. The pre-production phase of a project involves planning and organizing the concept, branding, and logistics. This includes selecting the music and choosing the appropriate artists for the show. Once the show’s date is set, we focus on PR, marketing, and media advertising.

What goes into planning and organizing a music show? How do you choose the artists, venues, and other details for each event?
When selecting artists for a show, we consider the demographyy and audience that we will be performing for. The venue is chosen based on its accessibility and capacity for the event. We then cast the appropriate talent that fits the platform.

How do you ensure that the shows you put on are successful and well-received by the audience?
Promoters help to advertise and promote events, and we use a variety of methods such as billboards and demographic studies to reach the intended audience. We may also feature established artists to attract a larger following.

How do you work with the music artists you represent to help them succeed and grow their careers?
Our role is to help artists develop their identity, voice, and marketability. We assist with single releases and production and help to market the artist across all digital platforms. We also help to connect artists with managers, promoters, and gigs to test their marketability. If appropriate, we may also place them in television shows.

How has the music industry changed in recent years, and how have you adapted to these changes?
The music industry has evolved with the advances in technology, moving away from physical formats like CDs and vinyl records to digital distribution. This has changed the way that music is monetized. To stay relevant, artists must take a multi-faceted approach and consider other revenue streams such as clothing lines and perfumes. To overcome challenges in the industry, it is important to stay current with trends and technology, and to have perseverance and patience.

Can you share any memorable or notable experiences you’ve had while working with music artists and putting on shows?
Some of my past projects include the “Hair Affair” show in the 90s, which focused on the relationship between music and hair during different decades. My latest project, “Redemption the Movie,” features music from various decades ranging from the 80s to the present day.

What advice would you have for aspiring music industry professionals who want to get involved in organizing shows and working with artists?
To succeed in the music industry, it is important to learn the business, seek out a mentor, and take courses in music business and finance. It is also helpful to have a producer who understands your musical style and can guide you in all genres. Networking and building relationships with industry professionals can also be beneficial. Finally, it is important to be open to learning and adapting to change.
