A private screening of foremost event planner, Ndidi Obioha’s new reality TV show titled, The Event Pros, last week at her office and boutique, Enthyst place, off Admiralty Way, Lekki. Obioha, whose event-planning career spans several decades, wants to showcase the madness, the tension that goes on in putting together an event. According to her, “it is a reality show, so there is no holding back this is you seeing me in my element planning an event, because a lot of people keep wondering what an event planner does.”

She continued, “One of the things that made me decide to do this was, looking back, there were so many non-professionals in the industry, because of the money and they just do anything, cutting corners at the expense of the clients who paid them for a job. The whole idea is make the show entertaining, and most importantly, informative such that anybody intending to become an event planner, can learn a whole lot watching the show and in no time, they can get ideas that can make them begin to do stuff by themselves. It is an idea that will totally help the industry.”

“The programme would be in three segments”, she said. “We are going to be showcasing people that we consider to be professionals in the industry. You will hear us share our experiences as well as our clients’ comments so that people can learn from it. There is a diary session where we relate what we have been through, we also have the interview session where we are going to be interviewing vendors as well as a session where we will be giving tips on what to look out for like, the kind of music to play at what occasion, which also helps showcase the talent in our entertainment industry.”

According Obioha, “we have done our first season of 13 episodes already, which will be showing on Africa Magic Urban from July, but began showing on online platforms in June.”

The season two, according to the CEO of Enthyst Place, will be a search for event planners intern. “We shall have different people vile for the position and the winner will be going with me to Vegas for an all expense paid trip, for a conference on event planning that I attend every year, so that they can experience the whole thing and understand.”

Asked if the winner would also have start up funds, Obioha retorted, “the truth is that, as an event planner, you don’t need start up funds, clients pay you to do the job, so, the criteria will be people, who are creative and passionate, because those are the things you need to succeed as an event planner, we are going to give the winner a chance to execute some projects and if he or she does it well they will get other jobs from there. When I started, the very first job I did got me three other weddings, it is that simple.”
