Banker turned actor and radio presenter Ifeanyi Akogo, who played the role of “Boniface” in the recently concluded AM Battleground TV Series has voiced his views on the criticisms faced by entertainers when they are perceived by the public to be switching career paths.

According to Akogo, “every artiste has multiple talents, and not just artistes but everyone. I don’t believe that anyone was born with just one creative ability, and that’s why I don’t agree with the notion that an entertainer should only express one craft.”

The multi-talented Ifeanyi Akogo studied Health Education at Delta State University, Abraka and also bagged a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management from Pan African University.

“I love the arts, probably because I grew up watching and participating in a lot of stage plays,” Akogo said. “I had my first stage play when I was eight, I played the role of Owolabi on stage – Owolabi the thief… my mum wasn’t thrilled about the role at all.”

The articulate thespian who is currently co-presenting Music and Moments on 99.3 Nigeria Info FM has been involved in numerous stage performances and has been casted in primary roles alongside leading actors in the Nollywood Film Industry, such as Adesua Etomi, Segun Arinze, Van Vicker, Jimmy Odukoya, Shaffy Bello, Gideon Okeke, Abiola Segun Williams, Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor, Lala Akindoju, Somkele Idhalama, Chiwetalu Agwu, Jide Kosoko, Bolanle Ninalowo, Bolaji Ogunmola, Ayoola Ayolola and many more.

“Most of us can act, sing, paint, draw, and even do much more. Some of us are even astute businessmen, some are tech experts and I believe having various skills are essential for everyone. The world is continually evolving and so we must evolve with it, and what some may perceive to be switching careers is just that person expressing another his or her talents.’

Ifeanyi Akogo has featured in various movies and TV series, he played alongside Femi Jacobs in “Tango”, directed by Solomon Macauley and “Choices” directed by Don Pedro Obaseki.

He was also in “Crystal” and “Ordinary People” both directed by Desmond Elliott, “The Cleanser” by James Abinibi, “Living with Angel” by Ben Chiadika, “Mourning Karen” by Fehintola Olulana, “Façade” by Mahmoud Ali-Balogun, “Eve” and as “Mr Midas” on African Magic’s “Tinsel”.

“We need to pour our talents into many outlets to find balance because the environment that we have in Africa, and even globally, has pushed us in this age to become more resilient,” he concludes.
