Sodiq Omolaoye is a Nigerian journalist with over seven years of experience. A Mass Communication graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an MSc student at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, he reports for The Guardian Nigeria as a political correspondent. He currently covers the National Assembly (House of Representatives), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and civil society organisations. His reporting spans politics, political parties, human rights, anti-corruption, governance, and technology, with a focus on Nigeria’s democratic institutions and electoral processes. His works, including opinion pieces, have appeared in major national newspapers such as The Nation and Daily Trust. Omolaoye has reported from the field during several major elections in Nigeria, including the 2019 General Elections, the 2019 Bayelsa off-season governorship election, the 2020 Edo governorship election, the 2022 FCT Area Council elections, the 2023 General Elections, and the 2023 Imo governorship election. He was part of the accredited media team at the National Collation Centre during the 2023 General Elections. He was also selected as a member of the National Hajj Media Team for on-ground coverage of the 2019 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.
