The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has appointed Yann Bedzigui as his new Chief of Staff.
The appointment was announced in a statement shared on the AU’s X handle on Monday, with the AU Commission noting that Bedzigui would support the chairperson in advancing the institution’s vision, priorities, and strategic objectives.
According to the statement, Bedzigui brings extensive experience and a strong record of service to the role.
He holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from Université Panthéon-Assas and has authored several publications focusing on the African Union’s peace and security policy, conflict prevention, and regional dynamics across Africa.
The AU chairperson also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Staff, Souef Mohamed El-Amine, for his service and contributions during his tenure.
“The Chairperson expresses profound appreciation and gratitude to the outgoing Chief of Staff, Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine, for his dedicated service, steadfast commitment, and valuable contributions to the work of the Commission during his tenure,” the statement said.
Youssouf further commended the outgoing official for his professionalism and leadership, wishing him success in his future engagements.
