NLC loses member in Geneva at ongoing ILO conference

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has lost one of its members, Domingo Adeleke at the ongoing International Labour Conference (ILC) organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), in Geneva, Switzerland.

It was gathered that Adeleke died on Monday in Geneva, after a brief illness while attending the 114th session of the conference.
In a brief post shared on Facebook on Monday night, the NLC’s Assistant General Secretary, Chris Onyeka, announced his death.

He said Adeleke was a committed trade unionist whose dedication to Nigerian workers in Lagos state and the struggle for decent work took him to the global stage right to the end.

He said the loss is felt deeply by all who knew him and worked alongside him.

Onyeka said the NLC leadership visited the hospital in Annemmasse, France to see his body in solidarity and to mourn his passing, even as the Congress begins the process of arranging his painful exit while in active service.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the NLC family, and all comrades across Lagos state. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his commitment to workers’ rights continue to inspire us. Rest on, comrade! Your fight lives on!,” he said.

Until his death, Adeleke was a member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) and the Chairman, Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).
