Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, said his administration has commenced with plans to build the ‘Enyimba Industrial City’ that will make the State an export processing zone (EPZ).

Such export zones allow operators to import plant, machinery, equipment and material for the manufacture of export goods under security, without payment of duty.

Ikpeazu disclosed that already 9,000 hectares of land had been acquired in actualisation of the project. “The plan of my administration is to make Abia State one of the states to be known as an export processing zone, and that will be enriched with developments and we are committed to this. We have taken steps to acquire land and other necessary steps will follow to make this dream a reality.”

Ikpeazu, disclosed this in Lagos, at a grand reception organised in his honour by various social clubs in Ukwa-Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

He also used the opportunity to give a scorecard of his stewardship to the Ukwa-Ngwa and Abia people in general, who listened in administration. They include 115 roads, 51 of which have been completed.

He added: “some local governments in the state, which have never seen any tarred road since the State was created, now have tarred roads in their locality.

And we are using grade ‘A’ contractors in all the construction works, and the first flyover in the state is being constructed in Aba. Cement pavement technology is what we are using to construct drainages to ensure long lasting roads.” A documentary of his achievement was also shown to the people.

The President, Ngwa Social Club, Sam Onukwue, urged the Governor to complete the various road constructions, which he is constructing in Abia.

His words: “Within a year of governor Ikpeazu’s resumption in office, he is building enduring legacies. We implore the governor to complete the various infrastructural developments going on in Abia State.

“We appreciate the Governor for taking to construct and rehabilitate several roads in Aba town, which were neglected by the previous administrations under the guise of being federal roads.”
