Agip enhance local capacity with geoscience workstations

To boost Nigeria’s crude oil reserve and enhance local content in the Oil and Gas industry, the Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd yesterday, presented Geoscience Work stations to three Nigerian Universities.About nine Geoscience workstations equipped with opendTect, software licenses were provided to three universities, including University of Ibadan, University of Port Harcourt and Modibo Adama University of Technology, Yola.
 
The Managing Director of Nigerian Agip Exploration Ltd Lorenzo Fiorillo during the presentation of the Workstations in Abuja, pointed out that the initiative was designed to improve the quality of young geoscience graduates in the country and close gaps between the teaching of geosciences in the universities and the needs of the Nigerian oil and gas industry in the specific areas.
    
He added that the programme would help reduce the cost of training and training of employable Nigerian graduates by the oil and gas industry and also assist in the standardization of geosciences practice in Nigeria.He disclosed that the programme was implemented in partnership with Danvic Petroleum, who would be responsible for installing nine free OpendTect software licences on the workstations, provide technical support and maintenance of the workstation in the 3 universities.
  
Forilo disclosed that they would also conduct a three-day intensive training for 15 lecturers on how to use the geoscience workstations and also prepare the training evaluation reports.
   
He however commended Danvic Petroleum and her partner for providing the opendTect Interpretation software worth $200,000 free of charge commending the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the National Petroleum Investment Management Service (NAPIMS) for their cooperation in co-funding the project.

The Managing Director of Danvic Petroleum, Dr Muyiwa Afe, while stressing the importance of the capacity building mentioned that it was important to increase the number of Nigerians that can be gainfully employed in the oil and gas industry.
   
Afe who is also the President of Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria, stated that Danvic Petroleum had provided the equipment worth millions of dollars aimed at having up-to-date technology to train the students and also support federal government effort in providing infrastructure for the universities. He said the aim of the donation was to increase crude oil reserve, improve employability and to support federal government effort in improve infrastructures in the universities.
