Get Guardian on GoogleFollowing the blockade of food supply to the South West by the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN), the Chief Executive Officer of SITOG Nigeria, Mrs Grace Ajayi, has called on South West governors to provide soft loans and resources for youths to encourage them to venture into agriculture.
Ajayi, who is into the business of selling cattle, told The Guardian that when they stopped the transportation of cattle and other products to the South West, it became difficult to get cattle to buy and available ones were extremely expensive.
“We have to travel far from Ogun State to Kwara State to buy a cow for about N350,000. It was extremely expensive. The cattle were expensive during the period but I had to make it available in order to retain my customers. Whether it was profitable or not, we had to make it available.”
To avert such occurrence in the future, Ajayi urged South West governors to prepare the youths that were ready to venture into agriculture and provide resources for them.
She noted that some of the youths were ready to venture into farming, but they had no resources, adding, “I want to appeal to the governors in the southwest to do everything to prepare the youths and there will be food sufficiency for us all.”
