Former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has assured South east business communities that his government will address the various business challenges impeding their business operations.
Atiku spoke at a townhall meeting with South east business representatives at the Aba Sports Club, saying that both he and his running mate, Peter Obi, who are in business, also feel their pain.

He decried that the South east zone that is central to business in Nigeria, was not being giving the attention it deserves. “When it comes to business in Nigeria, it is the South east zone that we go to. That’s why we are here to feel the pulse of the zone, hence I shall do the needful that would prosper businesses and create job/employment opportunities.”

According to him, Aba is the hub of small and medium scale enterprises, “I feel your pain because I am both a businessman and manufacturer, and I assure you, I will clear those challenges against your smooth business operation.”

Chairman, Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (ACCIMA), Andy Uba Obasi, listed the challenges as power, poor roads, problems associated with the sea ports and clearing of goods, higher cost of clearing imported goods in the south against doing so in Lagos, delayed takeoff of the Aba Geometric Power project among others.

Atiku’s running mate, Peter Obi, described Aba as the engine of manufacturing that can positively change the entire Nigeria. “Atiku is here to help you to solve your problems. He is a businessman, who grew up in the wharfs.”

Irked that the Federal Government’s cash gift of N10,000 being distributed through Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to traders as “Trader Moni” Obi exclaimed, “you can’t trade with N10,000. Tell me which business can be done with such money.”

Also commenting, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, said the APC-led government is not aware that the people are poor and hungry, and does not take responsibility, adding that the 2019 election is the opportunity to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC; to pave the way for the Atiku-led federal government.

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, explained that Atiku convened the meeting to rub minds with stakeholders in the business sector in Aba, because he recognised the import of Aba business community in Nigeria’s business equation. “At the end of the interaction, he will take home the submissions for necessary action.”

Also, the Deputy President, Aba Business Community and former ACCIMA President, Ide John Udeagbala, commended Atiku for the meeting, saying: “South east has been a disadvantaged zone in Nigeria, and we hereby inform you that businesses here are distressed or dead. But we commend Governor Ikpeazu for having taken Aba and its products to greater heights nationally and internationally.”
