Elliot Ibie emerges new NAPE President
Elliot Ibie has been inaugurated as the President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE). Ibie was installed as the 45th President of the 47-year-old Association at the recently concluded 40th yearly International Conference & Exhibition of the Association held in Lagos.
A strong advocate of human capacity development with particular focus on mentorship and internship opportunities, he has served the Association in various capacities before his new assignment.
As President- Elect and Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) of the 40th yearly International Conference, he put together perhaps the most innovative and avant-garde Conference the Association has ever hosted.
As NAPE President, Elliot Ibie’s plans for the Association during his one-year tenure are built on three pillars of growth, responsibility, and collaboration and include championing social initiatives, expanding the student and regional chapters, improving the Association’s fund-generating drives and ensuring that NAPE remains a Special Purpose Vehicle for corporate advocacy.
Mr. Ibie is currently Asset Lead in charge of Managing Shell Nigeria’s Non-Operated Assets. Before then, he was Front-End Development Manager (FEDM) in charge of maturing emerging flagship projects in Shell’s Onshore and Deepwater petroleum portfolios.
Elliot has 30 years of petroleum industry experience with multinational companies in Nigeria. He previously worked with Chevron Nigeria, rising to the position of Exploration Team Leader maturing active Deepwater exploration blocks.
He has immense skills in phases of hydrocarbon exploration/exploitation including prospect generation/maturation, regional geology, sequence stratigraphy, exploration and development portfolio management, project and Discipline Assurance as well as staff coaching and mentoring.
Elliot Ibie obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Applied Geology from the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State in 1991 and a Master’s degree in Geology and Geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA in 1998.
He has won several academic distinctions and professional awards. He was a university Scholar at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) and the best graduating student from the Department of Applied Geology of the same university in 1991. He also won the third prize in the Mobil/ NMGS Best B.Sc. Dissertation Award in 1991.
Elliot is a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) and a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG); Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS); the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG).
Mr. Ibie is married to Debra and blessed with three children.
