Ilesanmi Boluwatife Elizabeth: In spirit with sax

Related

My name is Boluwatife Elizabeth Ilesanmi, also known as Tife Sax. I am a saxophonist, poised to rejuvenate that genre of music. At the beginning of my musical journey, I was very fascinated with musical instruments. And though I was reluctant to go into saxophone at first because I thought it was more of sight, but my spirit kept telling me I would become perfect at it, if I took it up as a hobby.

So, after deciding to go into it, my dad’s friend taught me a lot about saxophone. I acquired more knowledge about sax through him. He works with Silverbird in Abuja, and I always feel inspired and motivated whenever I see him playing saxophone. It is always a joy for me to watch his performance. At a point, I fell in love with sax and I summoned the courage to handle it. The passion grew over time, and I eventually take it up as a talent that must be developed.

The experience has been interesting and fulfilling, as I always feel I am in the spirit whenever I’m carrying my saxophone. I cannot imagine or explain it in plain language. Sometimes, I believe God is behind this, and I am grateful that I cooperated and became a vessel unto honour.

I feel more comfortable with the gospel genre of music.
I am doing my best to unleash my talent and affect lives positively.
I don’t feel threatened among young emerging saxophonists in the industry. I am optimistic and confident enough to join the league of professionals, both the young and elderly, to exhibit our talents, as well as populate the Kingdom of God. I salute the excellence of Beejay Sax, Demilade and Temidayo, among others. They have been a source of inspiration to me, and seeing them perform is always a wonderful experience. I know we can always improve on our game and hold our own in the industry.

My greatest challenge as a saxophonist is lack of acceptability and confidence in the up-and- coming artistes. But I know all these will become a story. And though it makes one sad sometimes, I will not be dejected, irrespective of whatever challenge I face now. I believe I am currently paying my dues, and I know my time will soon come.

I’ve been able to combine my academic and my musical activities without one disturbing the other through God’s grace and my parents’ love and help. My manager has also been supportive. I have rehearsal time, but my studies are my priority. I don’t joke with my education, as I want to become a medical doctor. However, I have no plan to dump sax for my certificate. It is possible to use sax to heal people, instead of prescribing medicine.

I want to use this medium to appreciate my parents for their support and for believing in me. I also want to thank my fans for their support. I want them to be on the lookout for more from me in 2019 and subsequent years.
