Tanker loaded with groundnut oil crashes in Niger
Just 48 hours after a petroleum tanker explosion at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in Niger State on Saturday, January 18, 2025, another tanker crashed again, though this time with groundnut oil contents in Bida Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred inside Bida town, close to A.Y. Shafer fuelling station, on Monday, January 21, 2025.
A resident of the town, who confirmed the incident, told The Guardian that when the vehicle failed, an attempt was made by the driver to transfer its contents to a second tanker. In the process, residents rushed out in large numbers to scoop the spilling groundnut oil.
The resident further stated that efforts made by the security agencies to prevent the residents’ actions failed, as the residents overpowered the security agencies.
Meanwhile, stakeholders and community leaders in the area have advised residents to stop engaging in such acts of taking what doesn’t belong to them, describing the act as ungodly.
