Recently released data by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), indicates that Nigerian telecommunications giant, Globacom, drove the telecommunications industry growth in the third quarter of 2020.
According to the data, the sector experienced significant growth in the quarter. This was propelled by growth in data subscriptions, which rose by 23 per cent year-on-year, representing 151,063,413 million subscribers as of September 2020.
A deeper dive into the data reveals that Globacom propelled the overall data subscription grew Internet subscription by about 33.2 per cent.
MTN, which came second, had a growth percentage of 24.5 during the same period, while Airtel recorded 21.4 per cent growth year-on-year.
The NBS report showed that the fourth operator, 9mobile, witnessed a decline during the period under review. The network suffered a 14 per cent slide in its Internet subscription figures in the same period.
Globacom’s remarkable performance in the sector is believed to be a result of the continuous upgrading of its network.
The telecoms service provider offers its subscribers attractive data packages with unmatched value. For example, 7GB goes for N1500 while N10, 000 gives the subscriber 50.
