Maritime Unions commend FG, Dantsoho on career advancement, staff welfare
The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have lauded the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, for their strides in staff welfare and career development.
In a joint letter signed by the SSASCGOC President, Akinola Bodunde, the unions expressed their gratitude for initiatives under Oyetola’s leadership, which secured approvals for the Dantsoho-led NPA management to tackle long-standing employee stagnation.
The unions highlighted a significant milestone such as the successful conduction of a long-overdue promotion examination, which addressed the career progression concerns of employees.
“We specifically appreciate the increase in productivity bonuses, the provision of end-of-year welfare items, and the comprehensive review of the Financial Guide to the Condition of Service, which responds to our members’ yearnings for improved benefits amidst inflationary pressures,” Bodunde stated.
He further assured the management of the union’s commitment to enhancing productivity, emphasising the need to meet the Key Performance Indicators outlined in the Presidential and Ministerial Performance Bond.
Dantsoho responded by attributing the swift resolution of these issues to the steadfast support of the Minister, Oyetola and the cooperation of the NPA’s executive management team.
He commended the President-General of MWUN and Deputy President of the NLC, Adewale Adeyanju, for his professionalism in ensuring industrial harmony.
Dantsoho pledges continued efforts to improve staff welfare.
The improvements come as the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently reported trade surpluses in Q2 and Q3 of 2023, which were driven by increased export transactions facilitated through NPA platforms.
The unions reiterated their support for the management and expressed optimism that the measures would enhance productivity and contribute significantly to the national economy.
