Ministry applauds Shippers Council’s trade facilitation initiatives
The Federal Ministry of Transportation has commended the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) for promoting the establishment of Vehicle Transit Areas (VTA) and other initiatives aimed at trade facilitation to revamp the nation’s economy and deliver superior service to shippers.
New Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, gave the commendation, while responding to the Executive Secretary of NSC, Hassan Bello’s briefing during a visit to the ministry.
Ajani expressed satisfaction over the prospects of actualising the VTAs in parts of the country, which she said, would lead to reduction of road accidents, stressing that the VTAs would ensure sanity on the roads and generate employment.
A statement issued by Head, Public Relations of NSC, Rakiya Zubair, said Ajani commended NSC’s achievements and encouraged the management to continue the work they were doing and assured them of the ministry’s support.
Bello mentioned the push for 24-hour operations and efforts to address congestion at the ports, as well as the multimodal transportation of goods to and from the ports and digitisation, as some of the initiatives, stating, however, that were challenges of resistance to regulations.
