NHIS delists over 23,000 in three months

Galaxy backbone gets ISO/IEC 20000 certification

Over 23,000 ghost enrolees have been delisted from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the last three months.The Executive Secretary, NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, disclosed this in Abuja, at the presentation of British Standards Institute’s ISO/IEC 20000 certificate to Galaxy Backbone Ltd., by the Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mrs. Harriet Thomson.

Usman noted that the NHIS ICT crack team from the Academia and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), were able to fish out the ghost beneficiaries through the deployment of Information Communication Technology (ICT), adding that this has saved the country billions of Naira.

The NHIS boss observed that on assumption of office, he was confronted with a lot of malpractices in the administration of the scheme adding that the Health Management Organisations (HMO’s) are fighting his efforts to sanitise the scheme. He said:

“We had to deploy ICT to flush out ghost enrolees. Without ICT, the scheme would have remained in the 19th century and would have been dishing out peoples’ money wrongly, that is why the HMO’s are fighting me. We need a robust and secured ICT that would help track every financial movements and transactions within the scheme as well as the purpose they are meant for. I have reached out to NiGComSat and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and now I have found Galaxy Backbone.”

The Deputy British High Commissioner, who presented the Certificate, to Galaxy Backbone, observed that ICT is very critical in delivering government services and making services accessible to the people.

She noted that Galaxy backbone has built a reputation and was the first government company in Nigeria to attain international standards, adding that this attests to excellent service delivery to its customers

Thomson stressed the need for the company to continue to adopt global standards and best practices to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, confidentiality and integrity in its day-to-day activities.

The Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone, Yusuf Kazaure, noted that considering the economic realities, the drop in oil prices, government funds could not support the existing infrastructure of the company.He added that Galaxy Backbone came up with a new vision called Galaxy 2.0 strategy to create a resilient organisation that can adapt to industry change, ensure long tern financial sustainability, become an e-team that solves government’s problem using ICT and create and entrench the culture of innovation.

Kazaure observed that the company introduced customer satisfaction index, using balance score card to measure progress, adding that it decided to go for the ISO 20,000 evaluation, and became the first public sector organization that has attained the feat.
