To address youth unemployment and reposition Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, (MSMEs) for business, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) and Sokoto State government have commenced plans to re-develop industrial centre in the state.

According to SMEDAN, the renewed focus on micro enterprises seeks to move micro entrepreneurs from the informal to the formal sector, increase contribution to GDP, enhanced job creation, wealth creation/poverty alleviation and improve the standard of living of the generality of the Nigerian populace.

Specifically, the agency noted that the primary objective of the proposed partnership is to ensure effective and efficient utilization of the IDC for the provision of infrastructural and institutional supports to MSMEs in Sokoto State in order to promote community development, rural industrialization, job/wealth creation, poverty reduction and enhance sustainable livelihoods.
