Twenty-one students from Premiere Academy in Lugbe, Abuja, distinguished themselves as some of the top performers nationwide in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), each scoring above 300 out of 400.
Leading the group was 16-year-old Ogunmolu Olaoluwa, who achieved a score of 360 with a subject combination of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Seventeen-year-olds Makrop Favour and Abduljalil Ishiaku followed with scores of 357 and 345, respectively. Six other students scored between 338 and 328, five scored between 327 and 311, and seven more scored between 306 and 301.
A total of 61 students from the Abuja-based school took the examination, and none scored below 200, the commonly accepted minimum score for university admission in Nigeria. The overall results contrast with the national trend, where 2025 UTME performances have prompted public concern over declining student outcomes.
Commenting on the achievements, the school’s principal, Mr. Chris Akinsowon, said the results reflect the longstanding culture of competitiveness, ethics, and hard work at Premiere Academy.
He credited the school’s success to sustained investment from the Board and owners, as well as effective collaboration between the Board, Management, parents, and other partners.
Akinsowon also acknowledged the role of parents in supporting the school’s efforts to provide a conducive learning environment. He reiterated the school’s commitment to delivering a well-rounded education designed to prepare students to compete with their peers internationally.
“Premiere Academy stands for the promotion of holistic education that reflects growing global trends and aspirations. We understand the importance of providing students with opportunities to access cutting-edge technologies, knowledge, and skills across diverse fields of study,” he said.
Akinsowon added that the school would continue to evolve its systems and environment to foster academic excellence and develop essential life skills such as confidence, creativity, teamwork, and leadership, aiming to prepare students to contribute positively to society.
