As part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School (LAGGS), the Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls’ Association (LAGGSOGA) has announced the launch of a N250 million endowment fund for the school.
The fund, which was unveiled during the association’s global reunion held recently at Eko Club, Lagos, is aimed at financing several key projects. These include the construction and furnishing of a modern dining hall, solar power installation, construction of staff quarters, renovation and beautification of the school hostel, and the provision of scholarships for deserving students.
In her address, the Association’s President, Grace Ben-Okezie, explained that the initiative underscores LAGGSOGA’s unwavering commitment to upholding the legacy of the school’s founders while addressing the evolving needs of the institution.
Ben-Okezie said, “This initiative is not just an expression of our gratitude, but a demonstration of our resolve to empower the school to meet the evolving challenges of modern education as we raise more young girls of today to become graceful lady-warriors that will conquer tomorrow and in turn contribute to sustaining and embellishing the legacy.”
She noted that the event goes beyond just a reunion, as it is also a call to action and a commitment to raise the banner higher by giving back to the institution.
“This fund is a testament to our dedication to providing the best for our alma mater. We aim to ensure that the school continues to nurture God-fearing, self-reliant, and disciplined young women who can stand the test of time.”
Delivering the keynote address and speaking on the theme: ‘Cherished Memories, Reunion and Fundraising’, Williams Josephine Oluseyi urged the association to embrace the power of giving back as a way to empower future generations.
She emphasised the importance of alumni contributions, whether through financial support, mentorship programs, or participation in alumni activities, as key to transforming the lives of current and future students.
“Our support can make dreams become a reality for countless students. By paying it forward, we are not only preserving our alma mater’s legacy but also creating opportunities for young minds to thrive,” she said.
Oluseyi urged all alumni to be active ambassadors of the school, advocating for its values and fostering collective change.
“We must work together as a united force to inspire, motivate, and uplift the next generation. By supporting initiatives such as job-raising campaigns, mentorship programs, and financial drives, we can help shape a brighter future for both the students and the school,” she added.
