Prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Friday awarded cash prizes to two top-performing graduates of the Nigerian Law School in recognition of their academic achievements.
Through his legal firm, Deji and Partners, Adeyanju presented a ₦5 million prize to Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja Esq., who emerged as the overall best graduating student from the Nigerian Law School after securing 18 academic awards—a feat considered unprecedented in the institution’s history.
In addition, Maryam Abiodun Lawal Esq., the best graduating female student and second overall with 8 awards, received ₦3 million from the firm.
Adeyanju disclosed the gesture in a post on his official X handle, where he congratulated the recipients and described their performance as a reflection of dedication and hard work.
“Earlier today, we had the honour of receiving Mr. Oluwabusayo Ifonlaja Esq. and Miss Maryam Abiodun Lawal Esq. Their excellence is a testament to the power of diligence, discipline, and determination, and a true inspiration to future lawyers,” the firm stated.
The award ceremony took place at the Abuja office of Deji and Partners, with both honourees in attendance. The law firm said the recognition forms part of its commitment to supporting legal education and rewarding academic excellence.
Mr. Ifonlaja’s record-setting performance at the Nigerian Law School has drawn national attention, with many in the legal community hailing it as a major accomplishment in the history of legal training in the country.
Miss Lawal also received commendation for her consistent academic performance, which placed her at the top among female graduates nationwide.
The Nigerian Law School, which serves as the final professional training ground for aspiring lawyers in Nigeria, conducts rigorous academic and practical sessions before qualifying students for Call to the Bar.
Over 7,134 graduates were called to the Bar during the ceremony held on July 8th–10th in Abuja.
