The management of Edo University, Uzairue, has launched a mandatory one-year industrial training for students in the departments of Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, with a special focus on acquiring technical skills in the conversion of fuel vehicles to gas.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dawood O. Egbefo, who disclosed this during the flag-off of the initiative, said the move is geared towards reducing the burden of fuel costs, increasing access to affordable transportation, creating jobs, and fostering economic growth.
Prof. Egbefo also stated that it would reduce carbon emissions and alleviate poverty, which, according to him, aligns with the vision of the visitor to the University and Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
He noted that the development is in partnership with the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO), the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, and the Edo State Ministry of Mining and Energy.
The VC stressed: “We are confident that this strategic partnership will yield lasting benefits for our communities, the nation, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
“The initiative demonstrates the university’s commitment to innovation, social responsibility, and collaboration with government and industry partners.
“This and many more innovations we offer are why Edo University is the best destination for students striving for academic excellence.
“We don’t go on strike. The university is open for everyone for academic pursuits. Our needs and expectations are met before we request,” he added.
