Education minister to deliver LASU’s convocation lecture today

Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, is expected to deliver the 28th convocation lecture of Lagos State University (LASU) today, April 8, 2025.

LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Ojo, while addressing journalists in Lagos yesterday, disclosed that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, would chair the lecture, titled, “Patriots, Citizenship and National Ownership, the imperative of collective responsibility for Nigeria’s future.”

She said that among the 8,711 graduating students, 192 came out with First Class, 17 with unclassified (MBBS/ BDS) degrees, 3,076 graduated with Second Class Upper Division, 4,397 with Second Class Lower Division, 990 with Third Class and 39 with a pass.

Besides, she said that the university would confer honorary doctorate degrees on Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) and former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro, for their invaluable contributions to the development of the institution and nation at large.

Olatunji-Ojo highlighted the achievements of the institution to include accreditation of 43 out of 44 courses presented during the last accreditation exercise, linkages and collaborations in fostering global competency, improved rankings, research and innovation, ICT innovation and development, infrastructural development, improved internal generating revenue and sports development.

The VC, who advised the graduating students to go forth and make an impact in the society, urged industry leaders to tap into the immense potential of the graduating students, who are more than prepared to contribute meaningfully to their organisations.”
