Educationists restate call for increased funding of sector

Stakeholders in the sector have restated call for increased funding of education in line with the recommendation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

An educationist, Mrs. Funso Adegbola, and a communication scholar, Dr Mujeedah Olagunju, made the call at the presentation of prizes to winners at the first national essay competition organised by Khayr Cancer Health Initiative (KCHI).

Adegbola is the Director of The Vale College, Ibadan, while Olagunju is a Deputy Director at the Voice of Nigeria, Ikoyi, Lagos. The competition showcased the strength of education, creating awareness and promoting early detection of breast cancer.

Adegbola, in her remarks, stressed the need for improved funding of the to produce students who would be globally competitive and relevant in the 21st centaury.

Olagunju, who is also an author, emphasised that it was imperative to invest in education, noting that with current trends in learning, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), technology and innovation, there is a need to allocate more funds to the sector.
