Experts chart path to innovative, inclusive learning

Seasoned educationists, government officials, and key stakeholders in the country’s education sector recently gathered at the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Epe, to discuss strategies on how to align Nigeria’s education system with global best practices.

At the event, themed: “Rethinking the Nigerian education system for best global practices,” organised by the institution’s College of Specialised and Professional Education (COSPED), participants reviewed the state of tertiary education sub-sector, and discussed the future of Nigerian education, particularly in the areas of innovative teaching, technology integration, and inclusive learning.

The conference is a platform for critical dialogue on the future of Nigerian education.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, described the programme as a pivotal step in achieving the institution’s vision for academic excellence.

She also emphasised the need for collective efforts towards the school’s forthcoming accreditation exercise, describing it as crucial.

Chairman, Conference Committee, Dr Olubusayo Asikhia, in her opening remarks, expressed gratitude to the management for supporting the initiative.

Asikhia enjoined participants to network, exchange ideas, and actively contribute to creating tangible solutions to Nigeria’s educational challenges, including policy recommendations, research collaborations, and capacity-building strategies.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, while describing the theme as apt, called for bold innovation and decisive action from all concerned.

The commissioner, who was represented by a director in the ministry, Mrs Oluwakemi Kalesanwo, commended the state government for its reforms in the sector, particularly concerning curriculum updates, skills development, and technology integration.

Sule emphasised the need to focus on initiatives that enhance educational quality and relevance, ensuring Nigerian students learn in environments that nurture their abilities and prepare them for global success.

He lauded COSPED’s efforts to inspire meaningful change in Nigeria’s education system, preparing future generations for leadership and innovation on a global scale.
