Three Nigerian institutions, namely University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), and Kaduna State University (KASU), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a non-governmental organisation, Learn Logistics by Kuhne Foundation, to enhance logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) education in the country.

The ceremony, held in Ikeja, Lagos, marked a significant step in capacity building efforts for LSCM professionals in Nigeria.

Learn logistics by Kuhne Foundation, a Swiss-based non-governmental organisation, focuses on developing logistics education programmes in regions with limited resources.

Managing Director of the organisation, Dr Andre Kreie, said their aim is to work with universities to establish logistics programmes from undergraduate to post-graduate and doctoral levels.

He said the initiative would help in equipping Nigerian universities with qualified lecturers, enhanced facilities, and structured logistics programmes, that would ensure students gain needed skills for the competitive job market.

“Nigeria focuses more on training, but without a full university education, one is not a professional logistician. This agreement not only supported training, it included the fundamental changes needed in capacity building for logistics professionals,” Kreie stated.

He also acknowledged Nigeria’s strategic importance, saying their choice was based on the country’s large population and economic strength, which would provide the opportunity to reach more students.
Already, he said the organisation is in talks with Vice Chancellors with a view to expanding the initiative.

The vice-chancellor of KASU, Prof. Abdullahi Musa, emphasised the vital role of logistics education, saying they are essential for national development.

Prof. Kolawole Oyedeji, who represented UNILAG, described the partnership as first of its kind, saying the move will significantly impact the institutions and the industry.

“This collaboration marks a turning point for logistics education in Nigeria, fostering long-term development in the country’s supply chain sector.”
