The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have moved to end multiple charges for the verification of candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results during tertiary admission.

Under the new arrangement, candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions through JAMB will pay N4,000 only once to verify their WAEC results, with the verified outcome subsequently made available to their preferred institutions.

The decision is expected to save admission seekers from repeated payments to tertiary institutions and multiple trips to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the same verification exercise.

In a joint statement issued by JAMB and WAEC, the two examination bodies said candidates would initiate the verification through a platform provided by JAMB, either from their homes or any internet-enabled location.

The bodies said, “All candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once, through JAMB.”

They explained that once successfully verified, the result would be shared with the institution to which the candidate was seeking admission for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.

Importantly, tertiary institutions have been directed not to impose another verification charge on candidates.

“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement stressed, adding that institutions were expected to utilise the verified results supplied by JAMB.
The arrangement follows a series of meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC aimed at streamlining the verification of O’Level results and reducing the burden on admission seekers.

WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.

The new policy means that one successful verification can be used multiple times for admission purposes, eliminating the need for candidates to repeatedly verify the same result whenever it is required by an institution.

The examination bodies said the development would significantly reduce the stress, time and cost associated with repeated visits to institutions and CBT centres.

Candidates were urged to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.

They said the collaboration was designed to put candidates’ interests first while reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process without compromising the integrity and security of academic records.

The policy is particularly significant for candidates seeking admission into multiple institutions, as a single verified WAEC result will now be available to relevant institutions instead of requiring candidates to undergo separate verification processes.

JAMB and WAEC said the arrangement would provide a more convenient and centralised system for authenticating O’Level results as candidates navigate the increasingly competitive tertiary admission process.
