The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to a statement issued in Minna by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations of the Council, Mr Azeez Sani, noted that, One Hundred and Eighty Six Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety One (186,291) candidates registered for the examinations in 12 subjects.

It added that candidates were drawn from the 36 states and the FCT, as well as five Foreign Countries.

The statement further explained that the examination, which commenced on 20th April, 2026, was successfully concluded on 30th April, 2026.

It also stressed that the results of the examination were released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

“During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs) Folake Olatunji David, Director, Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the successful release of the result”. Statement added.

The Award Committee Meeting was attended by some Secondary School principals from across the country, as well as NECO Management.

In a related development, the Award Committee has also approved the date and time for the 2026 BECE Re-sit examination, noting that the Re-sit examination is scheduled to be held on 22nd and 23rd July 2026 for Mathematics and English Studies.

The BECE Re-sit examination is conducted for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English studies or both.

The Re-sit examination is to enable affected candidates to remedy deficiencies in mathematics and English Studies, which allows them to gain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year.
