Efforts to improve access to education for children from disadvantaged communities in Lagos State are continuing through initiatives led by The Orphanage Sanctuary (TSO), a non-profit organization focused on education, welfare, and community support.
Among its major projects is the “Educate a Child” initiative, a program established to assist children facing financial and social barriers to formal education. Through the scheme, selected beneficiaries receive support covering school fees, uniforms, examination registration, and essential learning materials.
The initiative recently reached a milestone following the successful graduation of its first group of sponsored students from secondary school, with several beneficiaries gaining admission into universities across Nigeria. The achievement highlights the impact of sustained educational support on children from low-income backgrounds.
Beyond financial assistance, the program also provides mentorship and academic guidance aimed at helping students remain focused on their studies and future ambitions. Candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions are additionally supported through sponsorship for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.
According to the organization, the initiative was introduced to help reduce the educational challenges faced by children in underserved communities while promoting long-term academic and personal development.
Plans are currently underway to extend the program to more communities across Lagos State, with additional students expected to benefit from the educational support initiative.
