Private varsities urged to elevate academic standards

In a bid to enhance the quality of education in Nigeria, the Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan, Prof. Kabiru Adeyemo, has enjoined private institutions in the country to strive for international academic standards.

Adeyemo emphasised that private universities are already producing graduates with impressive intellectual capabilities, citing industry reports on internship students from these institutions as evidence.

He urged university officials to participate in the forthcoming educational forum, which will provide a platform for engaging with final-year students from top, accredited private secondary schools, as well as their parents.

The forum, scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on November 7, will enable universities to gain first-hand experience on the calibre of students required to meet international academic standards.

The event will also provide an opportunity for universities to market themselves and showcase their credentials to prospective students.

This year’s forum will focus on addressing the recent policy changes introduced by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The forum will provide a professional platform for universities to demonstrate their ability to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel academically and in the industry.

Participating universities will present on various topics, including campus life, scholarship opportunities, internships, overseas connections, and vocational skills training.
