UI Independence Hall alumni to commission PA system, unveil new logo

The Great Independence Hall Alumni Association (GIHAA) will on Tuesday commission a newly installed public address system and unveil a refreshed alumni logo at the historic Independence Hall of the University of Ibadan (UI).

The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the hall premises in Ibadan, marks another milestone in the alumni body’s ongoing efforts to improve student welfare and strengthen the hall’s infrastructure.

According to a statement by the association, the new PA system is expected to significantly enhance hall-wide communication, improve coordination of student activities, and foster a stronger sense of community among residents.

The commissioning will be led by Professor Joseph Olutayo Yaniwura, a retired professor of statistics and one of the hall’s pioneer occupants. His presence, organisers say, is a nod to the enduring legacy and intergenerational bonds that have shaped Indy Hall over the decades.

In addition to the system commissioning, the event will also feature the official unveiling of GIHAA’s new logo, a symbolic redesign crafted to reflect the association’s unity, heritage, and commitment to future progress.

“This event is not only about the commissioning of a system or the launch of a logo,” said Mr. Omotola Ifafore, President of GIHAA. “It’s about legacy, identity, and our collective responsibility to give back.”

“We’re thrilled to contribute to the hall’s development and to deepen the connection among past and present occupants of Indy Hall,” he added.

Established in the early years of Nigeria’s independence, Independence Hall, fondly known as “Indy Hall,” remains one of the most iconic student residences at UI and a symbol of intellectual, cultural, and political vibrancy on campus.
