The electricity generation fell to 653.60 megawatts (MW) as of 2:00 p.m. on Monday, with 27 of the 33 generating plants listed on the national grid dashboard recording zero output, raising fresh concerns over electricity supply to homes and businesses.
Data from the real-time generation dashboard of the national grid operator,niggrid.org showed that only six listed plants were contributing electricity at the time, with output concentrated in Delta, Odukpani, Omotosho, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele and Trans-Amadi power stations.
Delta generated 196MW, while Odukpani NIPP contributed 187.90MW. Omotosho recorded 157.50MW, while Omotosho NIPP generated 84.30MW. Sapele contributed 25.10MW, with Trans-Amadi recording just 2.80MW.
The dashboard put total real-time generation at 653.60MW, as reported by seven generating companies, at the time of the reading.
Several major generating stations, including Egbin, Afam III, Afam VI, Alaoji NIPP, Geregu, Jebba, Kainji, Shiroro and Zungeru, recorded zero output in the displayed data.
The low generation comes amid continuing electricity supply challenges across the country, with distribution companies attributing reduced supply hours in parts of Lagos to inadequate allocations from the national grid.
Ikeja Electric disclosed on Monday that a shortfall in the volume of electricity allocated to its network had reduced supply hours for customers, while the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company also reported a technical fault affecting supply to parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
The latest generation figure underscores the vulnerability of electricity supply when output from generating stations falls sharply, leaving distribution companies with less power to allocate to consumers.
