Sunbeth Energies Limited has introduced what it described as Nigeria’s first self-service fuel station, deploying a digital platform at its Ogba outlet in Lagos.
The platform allows motorists to initiate, monitor and complete fuel purchases without the assistance of an attendant.
The company said the platform gives customers visibility into every stage of the fuelling process, from initiating a purchase to monitoring the volume dispensed and confirming payment, in a move aimed at improving transparency and convenience in fuel retail.
For decades, fuel purchases in Nigeria have largely relied on attendant-operated dispensing, a system that has attracted concerns over dispensing accuracy and transaction transparency.
According to Sunbeth Energies, the self-service model allows customers to oversee the entire transaction through an interactive interface, providing real-time information on the volume dispensed and payment confirmation.
The solution was developed in partnership with Tech Brokers Ltd, a Nigerian technology company, which designed the platform to integrate intelligent forecourt automation with secure payment systems.
The company said the architecture supports multiple payment platforms and forecourt technologies.
Speaking at the unveiling, the Managing Director of Sunbeth Energies Ltd, Lateef Abioye, described the launch as a milestone for the company’s retail operations and Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
“Today is a defining moment not only for Sunbeth Energies, but also for Nigeria’s downstream petroleum industry. By launching Nigeria’s first self-service fuel station, we are introducing a new standard of transparency, convenience and customer empowerment.
“Every customer deserves to know exactly what they are paying for, and this innovation gives them that confidence,” he said.
Abioye added that what makes the achievement even more significant was that it is a Nigerian innovation.
He said the Ogba station marks the first phase of a wider digital transformation programme across the company’s retail network.
“This is only the first step. We are committed to building intelligent, connected forecourts that combine digital payments, automation, data-driven insights and superior customer experience.
“Our ambition is to set a new industry standard for how energy products are delivered in Nigeria,” Abioye said.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tech Brokers Limited, Wasiu Popoola, said the technology was developed to support the evolving needs of Nigeria’s downstream oil and gas industry.
He commended the management of the firm for its foresight, courage and technological maturity in partnering with Tech Brokers to bring the solution to market.
“It takes visionary leadership to embrace transformative innovation, and Sunbeth has demonstrated exactly that. Together, we have shown that world-class technology can be conceived, designed and delivered by Nigerian companies to solve Nigerian challenges,” he said.
The company said customer experience personnel have been deployed at the Ogba station to guide users through the self-service process and help where required.
