Gov. Makinde reacts to impeachment rumour

Makinde, Kwankwaso hold closed-doors meeting in Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday dismissed rumours of an alleged impeachment plot against him, downplaying the speculation with a light-hearted remark.

The rumours had suggested that former First Lady of Oyo State, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, allegedly held a meeting with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, over plans to remove the governor. However, the claims remain unverified.

Speaking during the inauguration of key committees to drive the state’s long-term tourism development and preparations for the International Tourism Summit 2026, Makinde brushed aside the speculation.

“This administration will come to an end in one year and one month. So what will happen next? Well, that is if I am not impeached, then,” he said jokingly.

The governor said his administration remained focused on governance and long-term development initiatives.

“Today, we inaugurated two committees—the Organising Committee for the International Tourism Summit Oyo State 2026, scheduled to hold from May 12 to 14, 2026, and the 25-Year Tourism Master Plan Committee,” he said.

According to him, the master plan committee is designed to provide a long-term framework that will guide investment decisions and outlive successive administrations in the state.

“As I said in my remarks, this is serious work and will require active participation. My expectation is that members of both committees will give their best to ensure these initiatives benefit the good people of Oyo State,” Makinde added.
