Ajimobi denies role in alleged impeachment plot, calls claims false

Former Oyo State First Lady and ambassador-designate to Austria, Florence Ajimobi

Former Oyo State First Lady and ambassador-designate to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has dismissed allegations linking her to an alleged plot to induce lawmakers to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by her media office, Mrs. Ajimobi said the allegations were “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation” aimed at tarnishing her reputation and misleading the public.

The reaction followed separate denials by members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Gbenga Oyekola and the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who rejected claims of involvement in any plot to destabilise the state government or receipt of inducements from political actors.

Ajimobi specifically refuted claims that she hosted or attended any meeting in Lagos or elsewhere where plans to influence the Assembly were allegedly discussed.

“At no time did Ambassador Ajimobi convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilising the Oyo State Government,” the statement read.

She described attempts to link her to the allegations as malicious propaganda designed to bring her into disrepute among the people of Oyo State and beyond.

According to her, “Activities of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation.”

Reiterating her commitment to democratic values and peace, Ajimobi maintained that she has never been involved in actions capable of undermining the stability of the state.

She urged the public to disregard the claims, warning that the spread of false information could heighten political tension. The statement added that legal action may be pursued if the allegations are not retracted.

Ajimobi, it added, remains focused on her humanitarian engagements and contributions to society and would not be distracted by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”
