Twenty-four hours after she was assigned the state ministry of education, Lagos Deputy governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, yesterday requested that the schools’ curriculum be reviewed to align it with contemporary demands and innovations. One of the new additions that the review committee will consider in the curriculum is purpose-build tablets for students in the Lagos State.

The deputy governor, at an inaugural meeting with management and key stakeholders in the education sector on Tuesday, stressed that the need to embark on the review of schools’ curriculum was also informed by the need to align the content of the schools’ curriculum with the immediate and future needs of the state.

She noted that the review of the curriculum was crucial as the content of education curricula actually determines the quality of man power that will eventually be produced.

Adebule opined that there was the need to review the parameters by which private school are operate, hence she directed that a meeting with private school owners be conveyed within the next two weeks in order to meet with them.

“I want to meet with private schools’ owners in the state. I believe that there must be a review of the standards used to measure them and any private school that is not ready to abide by set standards will be shown the way out,” she said.

Adebule stressed the importance of instituting competitions for teachers in different subject areas especially core subjects like Mathematics and English among others, to improve teachers’ capacity and value to education
