Ex-lawmaker urges processors to reduce rice price


A former House Representatives member, Dr Hussain Kangiwa, has urged rice millers and processors to consider reducing the price of processed rice to alleviate the suffering of many Nigerians while the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown lasts.

He made this call on Sunday while addressing journalists in his country home, Birnin Kebbi adding that the prices of food items as gone high as people consumed rice than other food items.

Dr Hussein lamented the negative economic situations of the country, urging Nigerians to support the Federal Government on the economic diversification plan.

“You see, as the Federal Government gave closed the land borders and stopped rice importation, there is need for the Nigeria rice millers to bring down the price of rice so that people can afford it,” he said.

Hussain also admonished people to support the government on the stay-at-home order to contain pandemic. “I want the government to empower youths more. Youths need to be supported so that they would not become political nuisance in the society,” he added.
