Nigerians have been advised to embrace daily consumption of Cocoa products, as it is rich in antioxidants, minerals and nutrients, providing innumerable health benefits that prevent the growth of infectious bacteria in the body.

The Managing Director of Spectra Industries Limited, Mr. Durodola Omolewa Kuteyi, who disclosed this in his welcome address during the celebration of his 70th birthday, recently in Lagos, said the product has a lot of medical benefits that go with its consumption due to its several healing powers.

He said: “Scientists consider cocoa powder as an active agent that helps prevent the growth of infectious bacteria in the body. The daily intake of the product, therefore, helps in boosting cognitive function, allows blood flow and maintains healthy growth. It prevents COVID-19.

“As an active practitioner in food processing, we are aware that a lot of our harvested food experience post-harvest losses. We also recognise that Nigeria is a massive country and we may not have the capacity to reach the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

“Our consultancy outfit has, therefore, over the years, embarked on training other SMEs in food processing so that those we trained can reach other areas we cannot reach to address the problem of post-harvest losses so that these seasonal crops can be available all the year-round.”

Kuteyi, who used the occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the company and the formal launch of his memoir: One Way Ticket: My Uninterrupted Life Journey From Pot To Factory, said he has been able to create a success story that has altered the competitive landscape of food processing and manufacturing in Nigeria.

He rued what he described as the harsh business environment in Nigeria, where SME operators are virtually left unprotected by the government, exposed to unfair competition from multinationals, frustrated by harsh financing terms by banks, as well as multiple layers of tax and other sundry charges by various levels of governments.

“I don’t want to bore you with the difficulties of running an SME in Nigeria. I have said a lot of that in the book we are launching today, which by the way, gives a lot of insight on how to navigate through the labyrinth of the challenges of SMEs in Nigeria. This is to encourage us all that as Nigerians we have what it takes to make our country great.

“Amidst all of the challenges, Spectra Industries have been able to survive and today, we have quality functional products such as Suco Cocoa Powder, Spectra (Pure Natural) Cocoa, Hyfiba, Fast O Meal, Sobake, some of which you have had the opportunity of tasting today. We also have new products that we are officially presenting to the world.

“In Nigeria, we cannot boast of good medical facilities as we have in developed countries and once your body system breaks down, you are on your own. So the best thing expected of you is to eat healthy food.”
