The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry (BOI), Dr Olasupo Olusi, has advocated for a curriculum review across Nigerian universities to align with current global demands and foster practical skills among graduates.

Dr. Olusi made this appeal during the 10th special convention of the Ekiti State University Alumni Association held in Abuja.

Despite Nigeria’s wealth in human and natural resources, Olusi noted that the country struggles with technological and economic development largely due to academic institutions’ focus on theory over practical application.

He urged for substantial investment in research, stressing the need to cultivate technical expertise rather than just theoretical knowledge.

Ekiti State University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ayodele, echoed Olusi’s sentiments, urging alumni to support the institutions that shaped them. He highlighted the importance of alumni contributions to building a robust academic environment and fostering innovation.

In a similar call, the institution’s Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, stressed the need for alumni associations to focus on development initiatives that benefit the university and its students.

Global President of the Ekiti State University Alumni Association, Dipo Bamisaye, stressed that tertiary institutions should consistently strive for excellence to remain competitive.

The convention included an award ceremony honouring notable alumni who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the university.

Honorees included Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, former presidential aide Mr. Kingsley Kuku, Chancellor Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Vice-Chancellor Professor Joseph Ayodele, and BOI MD Dr. Olasupo Olusi.

In a recent demonstration of support, the Bank of Industry allocated a development fund of 2.5 billion Naira to Ekiti State University, further stressed its commitment to the institution’s growth and the nation’s educational advancement.
