McPherson University welcomes freshers for new academic year
McPherson University has officially welcomed its new students for the 2024/2025 academic session during the institution’s 13th orientation programme, held at the University Multipurpose Hall. The event saw the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, addressing the incoming freshmen, urging them to be proactive as they begin their academic journey at the university, which he referred to as the “Home of Champions.”
In his keynote address, Professor Igbasan emphasised the importance of the orientation programme, stating, “This programme is designed to prepare you for your stay in the university.” He encouraged the students to take advantage of the numerous resources and opportunities available to them, noting that their success would largely depend on their engagement and initiative.

Reassuring the students of the university’s commitment to academic excellence, Professor Igbasan said, “We have competent and highly committed staff,” and he emphasised the faculty’s dedication to fostering a supportive learning environment. With a strong reputation for delivering quality education, the Vice-Chancellor reminded the students that McPherson University aims to instil a culture of academic excellence for both staff and students.
The Acting Registrar, Olufemi Adebowale, also addressed the new students, highlighting the growth the university has experienced since its inception. He encouraged the freshmen to seize the opportunities provided by the university’s continuous development. “There are programmes designed within the school curriculum to ensure you become professionals before you leave the four walls of this institution. Take full advantage of them,” he said.
Mrs. Aderonke Adeofun, the university’s Bursar, assured students of the institution’s commitment to maintaining its highly subsidised fees and flexible payment structure. She urged the students to focus on their academic pursuits while striving for excellence.

As the orientation programme came to a close, the students were given a tour of the key structures, colleges, and facilities on the campus. Impressed by the serene atmosphere and the well-structured environment, many students expressed their enthusiasm for the academic challenges ahead and their determination to achieve high grades.
McPherson University was launched in 2012 as a private Christian university. It was founded by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria.
