Ogun to shut down private school violating education policy
The Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning to private school owners not complying with its education policy, threatening to shut down those found violating regulations.
Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, expressed the government’s discontent over the non-compliance of some schools during a meeting with heads of private school associations in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday.
Prof. Arigbabu stated, “It has been observed that some private school owners are violating government decisions, such as shifting resumption dates and running foreign curricula.”
He further noted other infractions, including the failure to adhere to the state’s academic calendar, non-compliance with the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) platform, and the non-registration of Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) learners for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
“Any school found culpable of these violations will be shut down and prevented from operating. We want things to proceed according to the established framework,” he warned.
The Commissioner also stressed the need for private school owners to avoid granting double promotions to students.
He stated that any learner who is promoted inappropriately would be returned to their previous grade, and the school responsible would face sanctions.
The initiative aims to ensure a sustainable and revitalised education system in the state, Arigbabu explained, urging association leaders to convey the government’s message to their members and ensure full compliance with state policies.
In response, Abdul-Jelili Animashaun, Vice-Chairman of the League of Muslim Schools Proprietors, and Mrs. Bamidele Adesina, representing Faith Heritage College, Eleweran, Abeokuta, commended the government’s developmental initiatives in the education sector. They pledged to raise awareness among their peers and ensure adherence to government policies.
