The seventh generation of BMW 5 Series Sedan has made an historic debut in Lagos, on the floor of the just-concluded 2017 edition of the Banana Island Cultural Festival.

Authorised distributor of the brand in Nigeria, Coscharis Motor, was optimistic that the exclusive touches the all-new series received would serve the specific needs of customers in Nigerians, particularly the business class and turn it to a benchmark in its segment.

From the previous generation, the new ‘machine’ is more sporty, dynamics, got an unbeatable line-up of assistance systems, an unmatched degree of connectivity and a new and innovative operating system.

Similarly, a demonstration of the vehicle’s capacity at the festival, showed an indication that the new BMW 5 Series could be a perfect benchmark technologically and a glimpse of the future the automaker is preaching.

The attempt furthered the car as a “business athlete,” General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communication, Coscharis Group, Abiona Babarinde, said. He added, “We see technological leadership, emotionally rich products and digitalisation as essential factors in achieving success. With the expansion of our model portfolio in the large-vehicle classes, we are satisfying the wishes of many customers.”

According to him, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan has all the tools it needs to continue the remarkable success recorded by its predecessors; more than 7.6 million BMW 5 Series cars were sold across its first six generations.

He was certain that the superior driving pleasure and unsurpassed aerodynamics features of the car made it the sportiest sedan in its segment. The car came with the BMW lightweight design concept, which offered increased use of aluminium and high-strength steels, reducing the weight of the 5 Series Sedan by up to 100 kilogrammes from that of its predecessor.

The car is a step closer to autonomous driving thanks to a wealth of assistance systems, which are on hand in the new BMW 5 Series to offer the driver unbeatable support, not only at critical moments but also in less demanding situations at the wheel.

New features in the BMW 5 Series alongside the evasion aid, and crossing traffic warning are the lane change assistance, and lane keeping assistance with active side collision protection.

It is equipped with the latest-generation iDrive system. In top specification, it displays navigation, telephone and entertainment features, plus vehicle functions, on a high-resolution 10.25-inch screen. The system can be operated using the iDrive Controller, by voice command or gestures, or by touching the display controls directly, as the driver wishes.

The new BMW 5 Series also offers a compelling proposition in terms of connectivity. Extensive BMW Connected Drive features are joined by new services, which lavish business travellers with extra comfort and save them time.

All the engines in the BMW 5 Series Sedan line-up belong to the newly developed, modular BMW Efficient Dynamics family of power units. BMW Twin-Power Turbo technology imbues all the members of the family with outstanding performance combined with exceptional efficiency. The two petrol variants are available and working in tandem with either rear-wheel drive or BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive.
