It was a seamless blend of spiritual reverence, academic rigour and communal joy on Sunday, August 2, 2026 as the Admiral Jubrila Ayinla Multipurpose Hall in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, played host to the landmark sixth Haflah Convocation ceremony of the Lekki Qur’an Memorisation College.

The auspicious event brought together religious leaders, proud parents and well-wishers to honour a new cohort of young boys and girls, including distance learners who completed their rigorous coursework online, who have successfully committed the Holy Qur’an to memory.

The convocation stood as a profound testament to years of unwavering discipline, spiritual commitment and scholastic fortitude.

Throughout the ceremony, graduating students took turns reciting complex, randomly selected passages from the text, demonstrating flawless proficiency before an exacting panel before being cleared for graduation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the occasion and outgoing President of the Lekki Central Mosque, Dr. AbdulGaniy Labinjo, underscored the timeless nature of the Islamic scripture.

“We are here to celebrate the uniqueness of the Qur’an through the achievements of young boys and girls who have contributed to the enduring miracle of protecting the book of Allah with memorization,” Dr. Labinjo remarked. “The Qur’an is a miracle text written 1,500 years ago with no modification or removal that remains completely relevant today.”

He reminded the newly minted Huffadh (memorizers) that their attainment brings with it an elevated standard of personal conduct.

“This attainment is a crown of responsibility. You should see the Qur’an in your character, in the respect you show your parents and in whatever you do,” he charged, while extending appreciation to the tutors who laboured day and night with the students.

Speaking on behalf of LEMU Board of Trustees, Alhaji Yunus Saliu, commended the sacrifices made by the guardians of the graduands, describing their commitment as an investment of eternal yield.

“This is evidence that you have invested very wisely at the right time. It is a trade that will continue to flourish,” Saliu noted. “You have been correctly guided. Read and ponder on the Qur’an to receive maximum benefits, let it reflect in your character and spread the message.”

A poignant visual highlight of the proceedings was the sight of mothers and fathers standing beside their children during the recitations, a powerful symbol of shared sacrifice and family commitment.

In his admonition, the Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Sheikh Ridwan Jamiu, offered prayers for the graduands, asking Allah to grant the scripture as an intercession for them on the Day of Judgment.

He, however, challenged parents to view Qur’anic memorization not as a mere secondary pursuit, but as a lifelong commitment.

“If you memorize the Qur’an, you have to take it as a career, a lifetime career that the Hafiz cannot leave,” Sheikh Jamiu emphasized, urging parents to institute a mandatory twice-daily revision regimen at home.

Clarifying the institution’s pedagogical philosophy, the Chief Imam explained that memorization represents only the initial phase of a four-part journey toward full scholarly certification. Understanding and daily application, he stressed, remain paramount.

“You cannot memorize the Qur’an without applying it. You must never contradict it; you must be able to explain it,” he added, reflecting on the 10-year journey of the Lekki Qur’an Memorisation College and reaffirming its commitment to unyielding academic and moral standards.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for the institution’s management, administrative staff and faculty, fortifying the young graduands to serve as moral beacons in an increasingly complex world.
