FRSC mobilize 500 officers for Easter patrol

IN line with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), National Headquarters’ directive, the FRSC Lagos Sector Command has mobilized over 500 officers and men for their Easter Special Patrol along the three major critical corridors in the state, which include Lagos/Ibadan, Lagos/Épé and Lagos/Badagry Expressway.

The personnel deployment includes senior officers who are to act as monitors and supervisors. The Easter Special Patrol was designed to ensure a crash-free celebration by the motoring public particularly along the highway corridors.

The operation is aimed at arresting motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, overload their vehicles, over speed, make use of phone while driving, drive dangerously and failure to use seatbelt.

The Command equally deployed 35 patrol vehicles, four motorbikes and two ambulances for the operation. Also in partnership were private truck operators with heavy duty tow trucks positioned alone the corridors for prompt removal of obstructions in the event of any breakdown.

The Lagos State Sector Commander, Hyginus Omeje, said the Special Easter Special patrol started on April 1 and will last till April 8.

Omeje said: “This year’s Easter special operation is aimed at arresting motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, overload their vehicles, over speed, make use of phone while driving, drive dangerously or recklessly and failure to use seatbelt, among other traffic violations.

“Analysis of the three days operations shows that a total of 785 motorists have been arrested for over 884 different offense with a total of 306 vehicles impounded. We have equally carried out 38 motor park rallies, 29 road shows during which over 5000 handbills were distributed, alongside television station and radio programme appearances all aimed at educating the motoring public on the proper use of the highway during this Easter festival.

“We advise motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations during this period, avoid drink driving, overloading, over speeding, always fasten their seat belt and to remember that only the living can celebrate.”
