Govt committed to retirees’ welfare, says DG LASPEC

The Director General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mr Babalola Obilana, has said the state government remains fully committed to ensuring that every officer retires with dignity, pride and the assurance that their welfare is safeguarded.

Speaking at the 29th Retirement Documentation Seminar for officers retiring between January and June 2026, Obilana stated that Lagos State government, under the visionary leadership of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to the welfare of its workforce, both in service and in retirement.

He added that the seminar is one of the many initiatives that reflect that commitment, as it is designed not only to guide retires and intended retires through the technical aspects of retirement documentation but also to provide them with holistic knowledge that will make your transition seamless.

“Over the course of today’s programme, you will be exposed to a wide array of topics critical to retirement planning: From documentation procedures and pension administration, to financial management, healthcare, legal considerations and emotional readiness. Every aspect has been carefully curated to address the realities you are about to face.

“Our facilitators and industry experts are here to provide clarity, demystify processes and equip you with tools that will help you step into retirement with confidence and assurance.”

He urged the participants to approach the seminar with an open mind and a willingness to learn. “Ask questions. Take notes. Seek clarifications. This is your opportunity to ensure that no loose end remains untied in your preparation. The more proactive you are today, the more peaceful and rewarding your retirement years will be.

“Permit me to emphasise that retirement is not a period to fear or dread. Rather, it is a season to celebrate, a time to redirect your energy towards pursuits that bring joy, fulfilment and impact. Some of you may choose to engage in entrepreneurship, consultancy, community service, or even further studies.”

“To our prospective retirees gathered here today, I say this with utmost sincerity: your years of service have not gone unnoticed. Your retirement is not a withdrawal from relevance; it is an elevation into a new phase where you can contribute differently, yet meaningfully, to society. Please know that you have contributed to the growth, stability, and excellence of the Lagos State Public Service, and your legacy will continue to inspire those who come after you.

“I encourage you to absorb the knowledge shared here today and I am confident that with the right preparation, your retirement will be a period of joy, peace, and accomplishment.”
