…Uniting Africa Through Prosthetics and Orthotics Education and Innovation

IfeanHealth has reinforced its commitment to advancing prosthetics and orthotics education across Africa through the successful completion of its maiden Scholarship Scholar Program, the first initiative of its kind to bring together students from Nigeria and across the African continent under a unified professional development platform.

Launched in 2025, the program was designed to identify, support, and reward outstanding students in Prosthetics and Orthotics who demonstrate academic excellence, innovation, and a strong commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in Africa. This year’s edition also marked a historic milestone, positioning the initiative as an emerging pan-African platform for talent development in the field.

As part of the awareness campaign leading up to the program, the IfeanHealth team conducted institutional visits across Nigeria, engaging students from leading Prosthetics and Orthotics training institutions to educate them on the scholarship opportunity and encourage participation. Participating institutions included:

• Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology, Lagos (FECOT)
• Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE)
• Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO)
• University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED)
• School of Prosthetics and Orthotics Technology, Kano (SPOT)

The application process was open to Prosthetics and Orthotics students across Africa and required candidates to complete an application form, submit academic transcripts, recommendation letters, and a personal statement, as well as share a one-minute introductory video on social media tagging IfeanHealth.

The inaugural edition received 75 applications from across the continent. After a rigorous screening process, 26 candidates were shortlisted for the examination stage.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to innovation, transparency, and accessibility, the examination was conducted online using AI-powered assessment tools and broadcast live via Zoom to ensure fairness and equal participation regardless of location.

At the conclusion of the selection process, 11 outstanding students emerged as winners and were each awarded a cash prize of ₦100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira).

The scholarship recipients included Victor Ogili, Norine Mbamara, Giwa Aishat, Chidinma Opionachie, Ogbu Precious, Precious Asibezim, Sobechi Ugwu, Fortune Odunze, Doose Faith, Ismail Hamza, and Egbuka Chisom.

The official prize-giving ceremony for the scholarship recipients was held on February 5, 2026, marking a defining moment in the program’s journey and its evolution into a more inclusive African platform for professional development in prosthetics and orthotics.

Through this initiative, IfeanHealth continues to strengthen its contribution to healthcare education, innovation, and youth empowerment, while expanding opportunities for the next generation of Prosthetics and Orthotics professionals across Africa.
