Youth Corpers serving under the Medical and Drug Free Community Development Service (CDS) group at Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Council, Lagos State, have been told to always promote and maintain a healthy living as ambassadors of the Nation.

Dr. Sennuga Adeiyin, a physiotherapist admonished the Corps members, on Monday, in Lagos, during an event organized by the CDS group in commemoration of World Physiotherapy Day every 8th of September.

Dr. Adeiyin in her presentation stressed on the importance and effects of arthritis and physiotherapy to the human body system, adding that proper dieting and regular body exercise helps prevent individuals from contracting the ailment.

She added “Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. It can also help to reduce your risk of injury or illness in the future. It takes a holistic approach that involves the patient directly in their own care.

“Physiotherapy can improve your physical activity while helping you to prevent further injuries. Therefore, I encourage everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a balanced diet, avoiding sedentary habits, taking regular stretch breaks during work and ensuring you undergo a medical test regularly to check your health status because health they say is wealth.”

Earlier in his remark, the CDS president, Ogooluwa David Alabi, noted that such a move by Corps members has locally and significantly provided a level of support to those living with joint pains and its related issues, adding that arthritis has been a major health problem for all ages of which the elderly has been affected the most.

“During the solidarity walk, we were opportune to meet with virtually all age groups. Questions were entertained and certain myths were laid to rest… We desire to continue to advocate, provide support and capacity building as corps members to our society .We are patriotic, committed and focused on reaching out to Nigerians in the aspect of health,” he said.

The chairman, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government council, Mr Kehinde Almaroof Oleyede, while receiving the Corps members shortly after the event, commended their efforts in organising such health beneficial programme, adding that the importance of raising awareness about arthritis and physiotherapy, and the necessity to implement preventive measures among individuals in the society cannot be over-emphasised.
