As part of its commitment to building the capacity of its staff, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has commenced training 126 newly recruited staff under its Leadership Development Academy (LDA).
The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, visited the training venue today and urged the trainees to focus on self-development, assuring them that the agency would provide them with the necessary skills and tools to be effective in their roles and enhance primary healthcare in Nigeria.
Dr. Aina added that their recruitment is part of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to create jobs for Nigerians as a dividend of democracy. He then urged the new staff to appreciate the President’s good gesture.
Earlier, at the flag-off of the onboarding and training on Monday, the NPHCDA Executive Director and CEO stated that the new staff were joining the Agency at a unique moment in Nigeria’s primary health journey and that ‘the President is deeply committed to addressing the historical challenges in our health sector’. He added that “the government, under President Bola Tinubu, has given you a platform to make an impact, serve your country, and advance your careers. But your success depends on the choices you make, the effort you put in, and the values you uphold.”
The training supports the ongoing transformation of the agency to position it for effective and accountable implementation of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), as well as the agency’s ongoing efforts to foster a skilled, motivated, and engaged workforce, as outlined in its strategic blueprint under Dr. Aina’s leadership.
The NPHCDA Leadership Development Academy was established in 2019 as a long-term measure to create an internal system aimed at continually developing the leadership and management skills of mid-level staff to ensure effective performance and the delivery of Technical Assistance to States. It has trained four cohorts of new employees and graduated 55 Fellows across two cohorts.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) is the Federal Government agency responsible for providing technical and programme support to states, LGAs, and other stakeholders in the planning, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of PHC services in Nigeria.
