WHO, Ministry of Health set for National Health Financing Dialogue

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOHSW), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), will today convene a high-level National Policy Dialogue under the theme: “Reimagining the Future of Health Financing in Nigeria.”

In a post shared on its X handle on Thursday, the Ministry revealed that the Dialogue brings together senior government officials, policymakers, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to deliberate on innovative and sustainable approaches to healthcare financing that will guarantee equitable access to quality health services for all Nigerians.

In line with its plan to reaffirm WHO’s support for country-level impact, Regional Director, Prof. Mohamed Janabi, is in Nigeria at the invitation of the government to participate in the National Health Financing Dialogue (NHFD). His visit also underscores WHO’s commitment to sustainable health financing and universal health coverage.

Prof Janabi, on Wednesday, met with Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, to discuss national health priorities and financing reforms. Together, they explored pathways to strengthen WHO’s technical support for Nigeria’s health system.

He also held a town hall with WHO Nigeria staff, recognising their tireless efforts in advancing public health, emphasising operational excellence and reaffirming WHO’s support for country-level impact.

Janabi also joined the United Nations (UN) Heads of Agencies in Nigeria to deepen interagency collaboration in health and development. The roundtable focused on aligning efforts to accelerate progress toward SDGs and health equity.
