Institute rolls out five-year plan to checkmate soil degradation
The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) has rolled out a five-year strategic action plan to tackle soil degradation promotion and sustainable soil management to enhance food and nutrition security in the country.
The five-year strategic plan, to be implemented between 2020 and 2025, has five thematic pillars, including promoting sustainable management of soil resources for soil protection, conservation and sustainable productivity, encouraging investment, technical cooperation, policy, education, awareness and extension in soil.
He said they intend to set up a task team that would develop or adapt existing soil and land degradation indicators to be used in monitoring proximities, saying indicators would be developed through e-consultation and finalise during task team workshops.
